The Charlotte Lozier Institute published “Primer: The Basic Biochemistry of Abortion Pill Reversal” by Milly McGee in June 2024. The paper explains the scientific principles underlying Abortion Pill Reversal (APR). It contains eight content pages and 25 references. There are four sections.
Progesterone: An Essential Pregnancy Hormone
This section explains the central role of progesterone in the female reproductive system. It describes how human females produce progesterone and its role during pregnancy. It also describes how physicians have used natural (bioidentical) progesterone to support healthy pregnancies.
Abortion Drug Regimen: Mifepristone and Misoprostol
This section describes how mifepristone acts as a progesterone receptor antagonist and prevents progesterone from binding to uterine progesterone receptors. It also describes the action of misoprostol, which mimics the action of prostaglandins and causes uterine contractions.
How Abortion Pill Reversal Works
This section explains the biochemistry of enzyme-substrate interactions. In the case of APR, progesterone is the substrate, and it binds to uterine progesterone receptors. It explains how competitive inhibition works and the role of mifepristone as a reversible competitive inhibitor to progesterone. This section also briefly describes the Dr. George Delgado et al. 2018 APR study results.
Ideologically Driven Opposition
This section explains the erroneous claims and contradictions of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the results of the Dr. Mitchell Creinin APR study.
